140 glaciers flow from the Southern Alps, but of these only the Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers penetrate down to the tropical West Coast rainforests.

Guided walks and climbing experiences are offered on Fox Glacier. Many tourists also choose to partake in Heli-hikes, or scenic flights.

Apart from the Glacier itself, Fox Glacier is also renowned for the stunning reflections of Mount Cook/Aoraki & Mount Tasman on Lake Matheson.
